Colourfast Upgrade To Xerox V280 – No Brainer
An easy move up to the latest PSP Xerox digital press. Our V80 upgrade meant checking how our original decision had stacked up and how print trends have changed.
We have noted that our customers are demanding print in shorter turnround times and shorter runs. Lead on variable data if you want to attract print to mail or specialise in what you excel at. With speed and efficiency paramount, double check your productivity and automation are at least carried forward with new kit or better still enhanced.
Re-visit your marketing that highlighted quality and finished products by application. Don’t use jargon when booklets or three fold menus will be understood easier. Match your marketing to category of business products your customers use or could aspire to attract their own new business.
Stick to your quick print pro principles. Offer customers the best two of these three buying criteria. Speed, Quality, Price. Just because you have new kit, don’t expect it to sell itself. This new Xerox V280 will however attract volume but don’t rest on your laurels. Consider your customers buying criteria. Do they want it fast, top quality and cheap? Buying to price hardly ever delivers quality and speed. Many professional print service providers sell a premium express service with the Xerox Versant family reliability and running costs, not at a special lower price, no, plus 20 or 25%.
Selling a priority option does leave your customers to choose delivery time. When asked they seldom need a long run same day or are happy with a small run on the day and the rest in two days. Setting a precedent with a Versant will get you into promises that only two machines will deliver so take care unless you have room for another.
Higher selling prices are being achieved for colour matching or introducing embellished, neon or foil looking print. Yes, spot varnish too.
Horses for courses really. We love flyers and posters as they are in demand daily in our seaside town, along with menus in a huge assortment of sizes, stocks and finishes, all bread and butter to our V280.
For the past 10 years, Xerox has been the top selling press vendor in the colour light and mid production press categories. That’s where Versant® lives, and for good reason. You get industry-leading image quality, and more automation in the base model than most competitive presses offer even at higher “trim” levels.
Before you ask the price, let me share our research: On our present print volumes the new lower running costs of the V280 funded the rental. So same monthly billing for an upgraded print press. Check out your own proposal with DWS who will take into consideration the settling of any existing finance and your present service spend. Proposed new costings are prepared for comparison of your total monthly spend. Fingers crossed, contact Peter Ryan peter@dwsl.co.uk
Eyes down, new acronyms coming your way…
So what’s new over above our previous Versant 80?
If speed is your thing, you can get it without sacrificing quality with All Stocks Rated Speed (ASRS) option, which includes an upgraded Xerox Interface Decurler Module (IDM/ASRS), increasing speed by 25% on the heaviest stocks, including the ability to deliver full rated 80 ppm on all stocks up to 400 gsm.
Go compare with what you have versus what is now on offer. In short, Versant® is very versatile, with more feeding options, and more inline finishing options. Tailor made for your printroom, choose the exact compilation to match your needs and then some.
The Versant® 280 handles a wide range of media so you can produce an impressive range of jobs—coated and uncoated papers, bright papers, labels, business cards, glossy brochures, window decals, durable/synthetic papers, greeting cards, tabs, embossed, polyesters and custom solutions 52 to 400 gsm.
The Versant® 280’s Integrated Registration Alignment (IRA) is a combination of proprietary technology that automatically gives you remarkable registration.
When used in conjunction with Simple Image Quality Adjustments (SIQA), your press becomes more capable, allowing you to produce higher quality jobs faster and on more media types for better output.
Automated Image-to-Media Alignment ensures each page is perfectly registered and aligned. Automated Image Transfer Adjustment ensures unsurpassed print quality on every stock. Automated Density Uniformity Adjustment safeguards image integrity across the page.
The Versant®280 has a high-quality single-pass copier/scanner as standard equipment.
Do you sell scanning as a walk in service? Our new Versant 280 simultaneously scans both sides of each page, provides a copy and scan duplex speed of 200 ipm for black and white as well as colour at 400 dpi resolution. At 600 dpi, the speed is 150 ppm for colour and 200 ppm for black and white. This speed, combined with the large capacity 250-sheet Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder (DADF), delivers excellent copying and scanning productivity.
In addition to copying, the scanning output options include scan to a local folder, scan to USB, email, network, or scan to a computer.
Automated Sheet Decurling is a standard feature of the Versant® 280 and it is built right into the print engine.
The new innovative flat fuser pad in the Compact Belt Fuser results in a larger surface contact area, reducing paper stress and deformation.
The fuser uses two heat rolls to replenish the heat lost through the fusing process more quickly and efficiently for consistent image quality at high speeds.
Although designed for long life, the entire assembly is customer replaceable, eliminating downtime and lost productivity.
This means it can print up to 400gsm, without the issues a normal fuser based product would historically have.
More new bits include the new Xerox® Ultra HD Resolution combines 1200 x 1200 RIP rendering with 2400 x 2400 imaging at the engine. While other presses may RIP at 1200 x 1200, Versant® is the only one with a 10-bit pipeline to send data to the engine. That's up to four times more pixel data than other presses.
